Abstract
The current study tests whether 3-Step-Theory (3ST) which includes initiation, escalation of suicidal ideation and transition to suicide attempts provides a valid framework for understanding features of adolescents suicide. Based on predictions of 3ST, we tested three steps based on sample (n=8,181) from "A study on supporting mental health promotion for children and adolescents" conducted in 2013. Main results are as follows. First, interation of hopelessness and psychological pain predicted initiation of suicidal ideation. Second, Family connectedness played a protective role between hopelessness, psychological pain and escalation of suicidal ideation, whereas school connectedness had no significant interaction effect. Third, violent delinquency among adolescents were distinctively contributed to transition from suicidal ideation to suicide attempts. Based on results, implications for intervention were suggested.
